On December 21, Andre Russell smashed a huge, 103-meter six that took a while to land. In Game No. 10 of the Big Bash League, the veteran hit the six during Melbourne Renegades’ contest with Brisbane Heat at Simonds Stadium in Geelong (BBL).
The Renegades were chasing 138 when they were reduced to nine for the loss of four wickets. Russell came out swinging after Michael Neser became the eighth bowler to record a BBL hat-trick. Russell helped his team somewhat recover by hitting Neser for three sixes and a four. With the aid of two fours and as many as six sixes, the West Indies all-rounder went on to score 57 runs off of 42 balls.

He was eventually caught behind the wickets by James Pierson off the fast bowler Mark Steketee. Along with Aaron Finch, who remained unbeaten on 31 runs off 43 balls with two fours and a six, Russell also contributed 81 runs for the fifth wicket partnership. Before becoming Steketee’s second victim, Akeal Hosein also played his shots well, scoring 30 runs off 19 balls. With four balls remaining, the Renegades successfully chased down the target.
In the meantime, Australian fast bowler Michael Neser made history by becoming the first player to complete a hat-trick in Big Bash League 2022-23 match. On the first ball of his over, he dismissed Sam Harper. The final ball of Nassen’s over saw Jake Fraser McGurk returned to the hut. When the Australian fast bowler returned to bowl his second over, the first ball he threw rattled Nic Maddinson’s stumps. He had Jonathan bowled on his subsequent ball to finish the hat-trick.
Having played three games in the tournaments so far, the Melbourne Renegades are yet to lose any. The team led by Nic Maddinson currently stands second in the points table with six points to their name.
