Jaydev Unadkat has made history by making a comeback to the Indian Test team after a long gap of 12 years. He made his comeback to the team in the ongoing second Test match against Bangladesh at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka.

The pacer had the ideal start to his comeback game as he immediately put the batters under pressure. He bowled the hard length, which the Bangladeshi openers found difficult to tackle. As a result, he ended up bagging his maiden Test wicket and also the first wicket of the match.

Unadkat’s first wicket of the game came thanks to the back-of-length delivery’s additional bounce. The centurion from the previous match, Zakir Hasan, became entangled while attempting to play a horizontal batted stroke. Due to his confined space, the ball was lobbed up and off the glove toward the fourth slip. KL Rahul made the easy catch to end the partnership.

In the meantime, Kuldeep Yadav, who returned with match-winning statistics of 8/113 in India’s 188-run victory in the opening game in Chattogram, was replaced by Unadkat. On December 16, 2010, 12 years and 2 days ago, Unadkat played in his first Test match at Centurion against South Africa.

He missed 118 Test matches in between, the most by an Indian and the second-most in cricket history. In the history of Test cricket, only England’s Gareth Batty (142 missed games) has missed more games than Unadkat.

As for the game, India has been able to bag three wickets so far with the assistance of the bouncy track in Dhaka. At the time of writing this article, hosts Bangladesh have scored 93 and lost three wickets in the first 33 overs. For India, Unadkat, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Umesh Yadav have all taken a wicket each.

The Indian team will try to defeat Bangladesh in this game in order to improve its chances of reaching the Test Championship 2023 final. They currently stand second in the points table.
