Manchester Originals and Northern Superchargers will start their campaign in The Hundred Men’s competition on August 5. Last year, when these teams played each other, the Purple Brigade won by 69 runs. However, this will count for little as this is the new season and the teams are starting with a scratch. Both teams will be looking to start their campaign on a winning note.
Team News
Manchester Originals:
The team is one of the strongest in the competition with the presence of Jos Buttler, Andre Russell, Sean Abbott, etc. However, the recent form of Buttler will be a worry for the Old Trafford-based side. Also, not to forget Andre Russell is not the fittest player around. However, the team would be banking on these two to create some impact.
Sean Abbott is one of the best players in league cricket around the globe. Even though he doesn’t play for Australia, he ensures he gives his 100 percent. The likes of Richard Gleeson and Matt Parkinson will be eager to do well after making their international debuts this summer.
Probable Playing XI: Jos Buttler (wk), Phil Salt, Laurie Evans, Wayne Madsen, Ashton Turner, Andre Russell, Colin Ackerman, Sean Abbott, Richard Gleeson, Matt Parkinson, Ollie Robinson
Northern Superchargers:
The team is no muck this year. They have the experience of Luke Wright, Faf du Plessis, Ben Stokes, David Wiese, Dwayne Bravo, etc. However, their biggest worry is the performance of Du Plessis. His performance in this year’s Indian T20 League was topsy-turvy, to say the least. Apart from a few games, he didn’t do enough with the bat.
On the other hand, Stokes, who recently retired from ODI cricket, hasn’t been at his best these days either. The all-rounder has returned from injury this summer and is capable of winning games on his own. Talking about Bravo, he is still one of the best death bowlers even at this stage of his career.
Probable Playing XI: Luke Wright, Faf du Plessis, Adam Lyth, Harry Brook, Ben Stokes, David Wiese, John Simpson, Dwayne Bravo, Adil Rashid, Matthew Potts, Brydon Carse
Pitch Report:
This will be the first game to be played in the tournament. Also, not to forget, the last competitive game at the venue was played a while ago. This is why it can be expected that the pitch is great for batting and the bowlers have to work hard.
