Southern Brave and Trent Rockets locked horns in the 25th game of The Hundred Men’s 2022 competition at the Rose Bowl in Southampton. The home team (Brave) won the toss and elected to bowl first. The decision wasn’t fruitful for the team in the first 12 balls as the opposition scored 17 runs. However, Paul Stirling provided the first breakthrough in the form of Alex Hales (8).

Wicketkeeper batter Tom Kohler-Cadmore (8) was caught at long-off by James Fuller off Jake Lintott on the 34th ball. At 39/2, Dawid Malan and Samit Patel stitched a partnership of 51 runs. The latter was cleaned up by Fuller after scoring 21 off 15 balls. Malan (59) followed next as he missed the leg-stump yorker from Michael Hogan. Colin Munro, who generally bats in the top-four, batted at number six in this game.

The left-hander played a cameo of 10-ball 16 before being caught at deep midwicket by Alex Davies off Fuller. The team ended up scoring only 138/6 at the end of the innings.

In reply, the Yellow brigade had a poor start as they lost the wickets of Paul Stirling and skipper James Vince in the first 14 balls. The former lost his wicket on a slower ball from Sam Cook. Vince played the ball on the stumps against Luke Wood. At 9/2, wicketkeeper batter Quinton de Kock and Alex Davies stitched a partnership of 43 runs. The former scored 24 before being caught behind by Cadmore off skipper Lewis Gregory.

At 52/3, Davies and Ross Whiteley stitched a match-winning partnership of 71 runs. Ross scored 30 off 21 balls before being caught at deep midwicket by Daniel Sams off Cook. Davies, on the hand, stayed unbeaten on 51 off 43 balls and took the team over the line. The Green Brigand won the game by six wickets and five balls to spare. With this win, Southern has kept their playoff hopes alive. They now have three wins in seven games. They will play their last league game against Northern Superchargers on August 31 at Leeds.
