Match 12 of the ongoing Caribbean Premier League included a contest between the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots (SKN) against Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) at Basseterre, St Kitts. After winning the toss, Kieron Pollard asked SKN to bat. Before Sherfane Rutherford produced a stunning knock of 62 from 38 balls to assist SKN set a difficult score of 179, Andre Fletcher sparked his team off to a fast start.
However, before their innings’ last over, something unusual occurred. Pollard’s side received a red card when the referee summoned him. The red card was used for the first time in the league this season. TKR were obliged to deploy just 10 players for the final over as a consequence of continuing their sluggish over-rate.
Only two of them were permitted to remain beyond the 30-yard circle. As Dwayne Bravo gave up 18 runs off the last over, Pollard instructed Sunil Narine, who was done with his four overs allotment with statistics of 3/24, to depart the field.
“We are going to play as fast as we can” : Keiron Pollard
After the game, Pollard referred to the regulation as “absolutely ridiculous,” adding that it is excessively harsh for a deviation of just 30 to 45 seconds from the permitted over-rate. He was quoted by ESPN Cricinfo and said that, “To be honest, it will take away the hard work everyone has done. We are like the pawns and we are going to do what we are told. We are going to play as fast as we can. If you are penalised for 30-45 seconds in a tournament like this, it is absolutely ridiculous.”
Once more, TKR’s openers Chadwick Walton as well as Martin Guptill were unable to score. To set the stage for his team, Nicholas Pooran, who seems to have been in excellent form lately, produced a scorching knock of 61 from 32 balls. Some brilliant contributions down the order took the TKKR side to their first win of the campaign.

Red Card will be misused in international cricket if applied. Cause subcontinent umpires will do everything to turn d game in favor of their respected country‘s teams.

It can't work in cricket because if u have only 10 fielders with 6 of them within circle in death overs, then the batting team is straightaway winning,, better would be to replace red card player with another player who can only field but shudnt bat or bowl
