Alex Carey, the wicketkeeper-batter for the Adelaide Strikers and Australia was engaged in an odd incident. Despite facing just one delivery, Hobart’s Nikhil Chaudhary was removed with a diamond duck (0 runs off 0 balls), which may seem improbable.
Spinner Cam Boyce produced a leg-side deliver that was caught by Carey, who removed the bails with such force that Chaudhary’s foot remained on the crease rather than behind, resulting in a stumping. Chaudhary technically didn’t face a legal ball because it was deemed a wide.
Concerned about the calibre of the stumping, Carey gave Jonny Bairstow a small Ashes-style punch. While being on air, he said, “Always happy to get a stumping … however it comes. Up to the stumps or back.”
The Hurricanes were down 5/36 in the first few overs of the contest. But they were back in the contest owing to Chris Jordan’s powerful hitting and Ben McDermott’s calm approach. In their BBL match against the Adelaide Strikers, McDermott’s unbeaten 95 from 61 balls has led the Hobart Hurricanes to a decent score of 7/165.
Hobart was batting badly throughout their innings, going 5/36 and then 6/66. But McDermott held his composure to survive as his colleagues were getting out for cheap all around him. throughout the end, he was able to hammer a couple boundaries, including a massive six off the final ball.
Adelaide Strikers return to winning ways
The Adelaide Strikers started dominating proceedings from the start as they were 84 for one from eight overs. That time Matt Short, the top run scorer in the BBL, was keeping up his excellent form. Chris Lynn continued to partner him during that time. They established an important 58-run knock to set up the chase for their team.
The Strikers lost three quick wickets and then Alex Carey came to the crease to finish the innings off. He was timing the ball beautifully and was confident of taking his side home right from the start, however lost his wicket after scoring 36 runs. In the end, Adelaide Strikers overcame the challenge mounted by Ben Mcdermott and Hobart Hurricanes.
