The Brisbane Heat were bowled out for 172 runs in the last over by the Sydney Thunder. This happened even after their team was cruising along at 1/107. More than 25,000 spectators were anticipated at The Gabba, and they were left stunned when their team faltered.
Daniel Sams was the first player from the Sydney Thunder to capture five wickets. This took place after Brisbane Heat surrendered 7/16 during the last eight deliveries of their innings. Daniel Sams came back to bowl his final over in the penultimate over of the innings. He was able to scalp four wickets and give away just one run to shock the hosts.
Before tricking Xavier Bartlett, Spencer Johnson, and Mitchell Swepson with slower balls, Sams had McSweeney trapped at cover. Earlier today, the all-rounder completed his spell with outstanding figures of 5-30. It was unfortunate that Mitchell Swepson’s misplaced slog did not land him a hat-trick, as it landed inches wide of the bowler’s feet.
The Heat opted to bat after winning the bat flip, however they lost their heavy opener Colin Munro for a golden duck during the first over. The season’s top run scorer for Brisbane, Sams, was caught off guard as he skied a Gurinder Sandhu ball down his neck at deep mid-wicket.
Brisbane Heat post competitive total against Sydney Thunder
After losing Munro in the opening over, Josh Brown and Nathan McSweeney grabbed the opportunity. They were able to put up a partnership of more than 100 runs over the second wicket. Brown had already been dropped once and had almost avoided being run out. However, later in the innings, Sams’s full toss claimed his wicket.
After Brown was sent back to the pavilion, Matt Renshaw and Sam Billings made brief cameos. McSweeney’s dismissal late in the hosts’ innings was the Heat’s worst blow. Everyone was expecting that Heat would make a huge total until Daniel Sams came back with the impressive five-wicket haul.
