‘What are they smoking’ – Fans question Delhi selectors as Yash Dhull gets sacked after just one game during Indian domestic season

Himmat Singh replaces Yash Dhull as the skipper of New Delhi side for rest of the season with Ayush Badoni the new deputy

India’s domestic season has begun and there is controversy brewing in the early stages. Delhi has sacked Yash Dhull as the skipper and replaced him with Himmat Singh. The move comes after Delhi lost the opening game of the season to Puducherry.

Yash Dhull was the Indian skipper when the national side won the 2022 Under-19 Title. The young batter made a tremendous domestic debut the very same year. The young batter scored 113 in each innings to make his debut a memorable affair.

It was a humiliating loss for Delhi considering Puducherry is considered one of the Minnows in the tournament. Over the last few years, Delhi’s cricket has been mired in controversy. Despite possessing some huge names who have played for India, the team hasn’t been able to be successful.

Himmat Singh replaces Yash Dhull as Delhi Skipper –

Moments after Delhi lost at home to Puducherry, news arrived that Yash Dhull was removed as the skipper. Devang Gandhi who is the coach of the Delhi revealed to the media after the decision was made.

Middle order-batter Himmat Singh will lead the side for the rest of the season. Yash Dhull had an outing to forget scoring just 2 and 23 as Puducherry won by 9 wickets. Batting first Delhi were all out for 148 before the visitors took a lead of 96 runs. In the second innings the home team was bowled out for 145 to give a target of just 50 runs.

Speaking to the media after the decision, Devang Gandhi said, “It was the selectors’ call. For me, Yash getting runs is the most important thing. He is the future of Delhi cricket. He needs to be taken care of. Anything that helps him concentrate on his batting and getting runs should be prioritized. He doesn’t need distractions off the field.”

The appointment of Himmat Singh is surprising since the right-handed batter himself is struggling for form. Ishant Sharma and Navdeep Saini the two out-of-favor India stars will not be available for the next game. Young Ayush Badoni is the new deputy skipper of the side that will take on Jammu and Kashmir next.
