Australia won the sixth ODI World Cup by beating India in the final in 2023. At the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Australia defeated India in front of a packed house of over 130000 people. The match turned out to be a heartbreak for India. But for Pat Cummins and co, it was the best result they could have asked for.
In the press conference, Cummins had said that there is nothing more pleasing than silencing the crowd in sports, and he did live by his words as India was left shattered. Cummins himself played a key role with the ball, as he claimed two important wickets in the middle overs. Cummins claimed the big wickets of Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer to put pressure on India.
It was Travis Head’s knock with the bat which will be remembered for a long time. The Southpaw took the game away from India by scoring 137 runs in 120 balls. The knock came after India reduced Australia to 47/3 at one stage in the run chase. Australia ended up winning the match by 6 wickets to claim their record sixth title in the ODI World Cup.
Narendra Modi hands over Trophy to Pat Cummins
The Indian fans in the stadium were distraught after the loss. The crowd quickly exited from the stadium, seeing the loss of its favourite team. In the post-match presentation, Travis Head bagged the award for the Player of the Match. Virat Kohli bagged the Player of the Tournament Award. Likewise, Cummins was handed over the Trophy by the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Cummins was graceful in receiving the award. As Modi congratulated Cummins, the Australian players made their way towards the stage to receive their well-deserved award. Modi congratulated all the Australian players for their win. It was a moment of celebration for Australia, who started their party after being handed the trophy. There were fireworks in the stadium and it seemed as if only Australian players and supporters were in the stadium to watch them celebrate.
