In the final match of the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023, India and Australia locked horns at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. Ahead of the game, the Asian side was coming unbeaten in the 10 games including the semifinal against New Zealand. On the other hand, the Aussies were coming in eight back-to-back wins after losing their first two matches. Meanwhile, in this game, the five-time winners won the toss and bowled first.

They had a good start as Mitchell Starc took the wicket of Shubman Gill at the score of 30. At this stage, the likes of skipper Rohit Sharma and former skipper Virat Kohli put together 46 runs for the second wicket. During this, both players scored quickly and looked like taking the game away. However, Sharma once again after getting a quick start got out trying to keep the run rate going.

After this, Shreyas Iyer was caught behind for the team to be reduced to 81/3. At this stage, the likes of Kohli and KL Rahul put together 68 runs for the fourth wicket. As this partnership was slow, the run rate didn’t pick up after this. Also, the team was reduced from 148/3 to 226/9. In the end, the team was bowled out for 240 runs.

In reply, despite the Indian bowlers bowling waywardly in patches, they lost three wickets for 47 runs. At this point, they needed to put together a partnership to win and seal the game chasing a below-par total. The likes of Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne stepped up and put together 192 runs for the fourth wicket. The former scored 137 off 120 balls and ensured that the team won their sixth ODI World Cup, having won their maiden World Test Championship final 2023 against the same a few months back.

On the other hand, Labuschagne remained unbeaten 58 off 1100 balls to take the team past the target in just 43 overs. Glenn Maxwell hit the winning runs, having scored two runs.
