India had an incredible tournament as a team in the ODI World Cup 2023. The home side won 10 matches on a trot to reach the final. On the big day, India was outclassed by a better team like Australia. The loss was heartbreaking for the players. The likes of Rohit Sharma, Mohammad Siraj, and Virat Kohli could not control their emotions, as they were just one step away from winning.
The loss hurt the Indian fans a lot. The crowd remained silent for the most part of the match. After the match, the Indian players in the dressing room were up for their last medal-winning ceremony. India celebrated the fielding in the tournament like never before, by awarding the best fielder in each match. It lifted the dressing room atmosphere and encouraged the players to field well.
The last such medal, in the final, was won by Virat Kohli. The star cricketer had won the first medal of the tournament as well. In both instances, Australia was the opponent of India. As unfortunate as it could get, Virat won the best fielder medal of the match in a losing cause, just like how he won several Player of the Tournament Awards in a losing cause.
Ravindra Jadeja hands over medal to Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli was graceful in acknowledging the award as he sported a smile. Ravindra Jadeja, the medal winner in the previous match of India against New Zealand in the semifinal, handed over the medal to Virat. the players in the dressing room applauded the two champion cricketers, despite being sad after their loss. The Indian fielding coach tried to lift the spirit of the players.
Before awarding the medal, there was footage which displayed how the medals were handed over in different ways to the winners in the tournament. Stadium screens, TV screens, spider cam, and various other innovative ways were used to declare the winners. After the final, it was pretty much simple and did not involve any special method in handing over the medal.
