Stefanos Tsitsipas also spoke about how he would enable that without the help from the federation.

Stefanos Tsitsipas revealed his new goals to his supporters in an interview with a Greek tabloid. The World No. 5 stated that because his country’s national governing body has not done enough to help young players develop their potential, he plans to mentor and assist them.

This year, Stefanos Tsitsipas has devised a new idea. The two-time Major finalist said in an interview with Tennis News Greece that the Hellenic Tennis Federation was failing to develop fresh talent on the Greek island.

Then Tsitsipas asked Maria Sakkari, the eighth-ranked player in the world and a citizen of his nation, to assist him in helping up-and-coming players. While speaking to Tennis News Greece, Stefanos Tsitsipas said, “Personally, I have a plan, which I want to implement in a few years from now. I don’t expect anything from the federation, they won’t be responsible for it, it’s a personal matter and something I want to create in the next few years.”

He added, “Of course, in this project, Maria is also welcome… For me it is a passion and it has nothing to do with money. I am passionate about the development of tennis in Greece and I hope in the future I will find the time because it is something that has been on my mind for the last few months.”

“I am always willing to help new players” : Stefanos Tsitsipas

Throughout the conversation, Stefanos Tsitsipas expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to mentor 19-year-old Stefanos Sakellaridis during the United Cup the previous year. He also mentioned his desire to see tennis become more popular in Greece.

The Greek Tennis sensation said, “I am always willing to help new players, especially from our country. I had the opportunity to mentor Stefanos (Sakellaridis) here in Sydney for a few days,” he said. “I have been in situations that not many Greek tennis players have been in before and I want to continue this legacy, to promote the sport in my own way.”
