With the Olympics in Paris just around the road, World number six Stefanos Tsitsipas announced his objectives for 2024. These include clinching a Grand Slam championship and delivering Olympic success to Greece.

Given that he only took home one championship at the Los Cabos Open in 2023, Tsitsipas’ season was uneventful. His run this year was capped off with his appearance during the Australian Open final, when Novak Djokovic beat him. Other than that, Tsitsipas advanced to the Barcelona Open championship match.

When the Greek retired from his ATP Finals second group-stage match versus Holger Rune due to a back ailment. Ultimately, his season came to an abrupt stop after just three games. Subsequently, he participated in the World Tennis League, although he was sidelined because of the same injuries.

He did an interview alongside The National at Etihad Arena during the mixed-team competition. During that, Stefanos Tsitsipas disclosed his two main objectives for the next season. Stefanos Tsitsipas said, “I want to obviously bring an Olympic medal back to my country, that is a goal of mine. I want to win a Grand Slam title [in 2024], that is also a goal of mine.”

The Greek sensation said, “For sure, in order for me to do these things I need to be healthy because there was a time this season where certain circumstances didn’t allow me to perform at 100 percent; what I’m talking about those instances, they appeared after the Australian Open this year, and towards the end of the season.”

“I did spend quality time with my family” : Stefanos Tsitsipas

Stefanos Tsitsipas will kick off his 2024 campaign in the United Cup. In that, he and other players, including WTA World No. 9 Maria Sakkari, will aim to help Greece to championship victory.

He said, “I wasn’t able to get the preparation that I actually needed – I’m talking about all the weeks (I was hoping to get). However, I did spend quality time with my family and I did spend a few weeks trying to find a solution to all of this [physical problems] and I think it paid off, going for many days in a row into rehab and committing myself to the process of absolute healing.”
