Mithun Chakraborty, a veteran actor, was admitted to a hospital in Kolkata on Saturday morning after he reported experiencing chest pain. According to insiders close to the actor, he was feeling uneasy, so he was taken to the hospital and is currently receiving treatment, as reported by India Today. In response, his family has now described it as “a routine checkup.”

In an interview with Indian Express, his eldest son Mimoh Chakraborty stated, “He (Mithun Chakraborty) is 100 per cent fine and it’s a routine checkup.” The actor had an MRI, and more tests are presently being carried out, according to officials of the Kolkata hospital where Mithun is receiving treatment, as reported by news agency PTI. The hospital representative stated, “Mithun Chakraborty was admitted this morning and is currently being examined by a physician. Later on, we will have more information to share.”

In January 2024, Mithun—along with Mouni Roy, Subhashree Ganguly, Srabanti Chatterjee, and Puja Banerjee—was bestowed with a Padma Award, known as the Padma Bhushan. Mithun was most recently a judge on the dance reality show Dance Bangla Dance. Actor Mimoh Chakraborty, the son of Mithun Chakraborty, expressed his joy over Mithun’s Padma Bhushan in an interview with ETimes last month, saying, “I have no words to describe this feeling of euphoria and joy. It is truly a privilege to experience this proud moment. I am incredibly appreciative of our government and institutions for bestowing this esteemed award upon my father, who is truly deserving of it. I am so happy and thankful right now. Touchwood.”

Actor Mithun Chakraborty, who has appeared in about 350 Indian films in the languages of Tamil, Bengali, Odia, Bhojpuri, and Hindi, among others, once said he could not believe he was getting the Padma Bhushan. The 73-year-old actor, whose career spanned roughly five decades and who made his acting debut in Mrinal Sen’s Mrigaya, said in a video message last month, “After a lot of struggle and hard work, I have finally received such an honour… I am unable to articulate the feeling. I dedicate this to all of my admirers, both domestically and overseas, who have shown me unwavering love.”
