England has come up with a 2-0 win over Australia in the three-match T20I series ahead of the 20-20 World Cup. After the win in the second match, England captain Jos Buttler said that they had to get Australia’s middle-order batter Tim David out to win the game.
Speaking after the game, the right-hand batter said, “It’s really satisfying. Dawid has been really consistent and has done it against every attack around the world.”
Butler went on to emphasise the importance of David’s wicket and lauded Sam Curran for it. “Sam Curran wants to be in the thick of things at the important moments. We had to get Tim David out to win the game,” Jos Buttler added.
Dawid Malan England’s most important batter
Defeating Australia at their home ahead of the 20-20 World Cup has instilled massive confidence in England players. David Malan is one such player who has regained his touch in the series. Malan was adjudged the Player of the Match for his match-winning 82 off 49 balls.
Speaking after receiving the award, the England batter said, “I’m over the moon, nice to score runs and contribute to a win. Knowledge of the grounds helps, I didn’t have a great Big Bash, but I’ve found my rhythm. Hopefully, I can keep the runs coming. Hussey [who presented 50th cap], one of my idols growing up, great to have him say a few words.”
England vice-captain, Moeen Ali was also impressed by Malan’s knock and has said that his form will inspire others to do well.
“We spoke about staying in the moment, Dawid played superbly, it was a crucial partnership. We take a lot of confidence, it’s huge for our team with a lot of young players. We’re progressing in the right direction, Pakistan was big for us, winning two here, and Jos coming back and in form,” said Ali.
Australia and England go head to head in the third and final match of the three-match T20I series on October 14th.
