India and New Zealand squared off against each other in the final T20I on February 1, Wednesday at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad, making it a memorable win. After going down in the first-ever match of the series, the Men in Blue bounced back in the second T20I which was played on Sunday.

To add more, the Indian team chased down the target of 100 on Sunday with just 1 ball to spare, with Suryakumar Yadav standing up for the team yet again. As far as the third T20I on Wednesday is concerned, several records were broken during the same and we decided to handpick five records that were broken during the contest.

Here are the five records that were broken during the third T20I between India and New Zealand:

5) Lowest score against India in T20Is

The Hardik Pandya-led Indian team put on 234 runs on the board after electing to bat first on the day and chasing a mammoth target, the New Zealanders were bundled out for just 66 runs, thereby registering the lowest-ever total against India.

For the unversed, Ireland held the record previously with 70 runs in a T20I match played in Dublin in 2018. It was captain Pandya who led the team from the front during the chase from Black Caps with his four-for, with Arshdeep Singh, Umran Malik and Shivam Mavi picking up a two-for each.

4) Ishan Kishan snatches unwanted record from Rishabh Pant

With Rishabh Pant recovering post his accident in late December 2022, Ishan Kishan is being preferred as the first-choice wicketkeeper in T20Is as KL Rahul was on a personal break to tie the knot with fiance Athiya Shetty. Kishan looked clueless in the three-match series against New Zealand and gathered 24 runs in total.

With an average of 8 in the series, Kishan overtook Pant’s record of the lowest average by an Indian wicketkeeper in a three-match T20I series, with the latter’s worst being 10. It is an unwanted record for the southpaw, who scored a double hundred against Bangladesh of late and the youngster would look to turn things around in the upcoming games.

3) Biggest-win margin by Test playing nation in T20I

It was as if the pitch got changed in the second innings, as the New Zealand batters were struggling to keep things going. On the other hand, the Indian pace attack was brimming with fire, with Kuldeep Yadav, the star spinner, being the only bowler to go wicketless on the day.

As a result, the Mitchell Santner-led Kiwis were bowled out for just 66 runs and the Men in Blue won the game by a massive margin of 168 runs, breaking their own record of 143 runs which came against Ireland. It is now the biggest win by runs margin from a Test-playing nation in the shortest format of the game.

2) Shubman Gill overtakes Virat Kohli with his unbeaten 126

Virat Kohli, the Indian superstar, ended his century drought and scored his 71st international ton against Afghanistan in the Asia Cup 2022, eventually bringing up his first-ever T20I hundred and going to become the player with the highest T20I score for India with 122 runs.

Much to the surprise of the Indian fans, Shubman Gill, the star Indian batter, looked in the fine nick on Wednesday and scored his first-ever T20I hundred, going to break Kohli’s ‘highest individual score by an Indian batter in T20Is’ record with his unbeaten 126 comprising of 12 fours and seven sixes.

1) Shubman Gill goes past Suresh Raina’s record

Scoring his first-ever T20I hundred against New Zealand in the third T20I on Wednesday, Gill went past Suresh Raina’s record on Wednesday’s game against Kiwis to become the youngest Indian to score a century in the shortest format of the game. To add more, the former Indian cricketer Raina achieved the feat when he was 23 years and 156 days old.

Gill, however, surprised everyone as he scored a T20I hundred at the age of 23 years and 146 days, 10 days earlier than the southpaw. The right-handed batter is fast becoming India’s best batter across all formats and the fans are still in awe of his enthralling ton.
