‘He has been continuously performing’- Harbhajan Singh gives his verdict on India’s new vice-captain in Test cricket

Harbhajan Singh

Team India is currently preparing for the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy which will start on March 1 at Holkar Stadium, Indore. Meanwhile, KL Rahul has been one of the biggest concerns for the team management. He has been consistently inconsistent in the longest format of the game and has been on the radar of critics.

Due to his poor performance, he was also sacked as vice-captain by the senior selection committee. Speaking on the same, former India spinner Harbhajan Singh suggests a new deputy for Rohit Sharma.

Ace off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin and star batter Cheteshwar Pujara are being considered the leading candidates to join Rohit as his deputy. Although off-spinner Harbhajan Singh believes that in-form all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja should get the job.

Harbhajan Singh stated that Jadeja’s batting has improved and he is certain in playing XI and, thus, he should be Rohit’s deputy not just in Tests but also in ODIs. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Harbhajan said,

“If you look at his performance, his batting has come good. He should get vice-captaincy not just in Tests but in ODIs as well. I don’t think there’s a better option.”

“You should have a vice-captain who plays in the XI. He should be on the team despite Indian or overseas conditions. I think Ravindra Jadeja is one such player. He should be given vice-captaincy. He has been continuously performing and is part of the team as a senior player,” he added.

Ravindra Jadeja made an amazing comeback after his injury

Star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja made an amazing comeback in international cricket after five months. He made his return to the side in the first Test against Australia in Nagpur. He has been named Player of the Match in both matches. Jadeja has taken already taken 17 wickets in two Tests and has tormented the Australian batting line-up in Nagpur and Delhi.

Since 2020, Jadeja has the fourth-greatest Test average (40.78) for an Indian batter, after only Shreyas Iyer, Rohit Sharma, and Rishabh Pant.
