FIFA World Cup 2022, Group C: Poland crush Saudi Arabia 2-0 to keep their hopes alive

The FIFA World Cup 2022 kicked off on November 20 between hosts Qatar and Ecuador and the former lost the match with a scoreline of 0-2. As things stand, Poland and Saudi Arabia locked horns in the Group C match on November 26, Saturday and the Polish side took a comfortable win on the back of a stupendous effort from star players Piotr Zieli?ski and Robert Lewandowski.

To add more to Poland’s first half, it was Zieli?ski to produced the lead for the team in the 39th minute, as he kicked the ball into the nets neatly, shifting the momentum towards the Polish team, otherwise dominated by Saudi Arabia.

The Al-Suqour Al-Khodhur managed to keep the possession in the first 45 minutes and came up with too many opportunities, but in vain as they failed to capitalize on either of them. Poland, on the other hand, kept thriving and continued to threaten the opponents with their fiery intent.

As far as the second half is concerned, both teams gave a tough fight, although it was Poland who came out on top at the stroke of the final whistle. Lewandowski doubled the lead and ensured victory towards the end of the game, in the 82nd minute.

Ever since Zieli?ski scored the first goal, Saudi Arabia lacked the tenacity to make a comeback, although they gave a tough fight in the deciding half. The Polish side are now favourites to reach the knockouts, while Saudi Arabia will have a few to work on in their next game against Mexico on Thursday.

Argentina, on the other hand, would hope to turn things around post their horror against the Al-Suqour Al-Khodhur and would look to make it through to the next round. Group C looks equally poised with Poland and Saudi Arabia claiming the top two spots after Saturday’s encounter and it remains to be seen if the La Albiceleste could change their fortunes in their next game, given that it might well be Lionel Messi’s final World Cup appearance.
