FIFA World Cup 2022, Day 3: Saudi Arabia stun Argentina, France crush Australia

The FIFA World Cup 2022 kicked off on November 20, Sunday in Qatar and since then, the campaign has witnessed some of the biggest turnarounds in the history of football. To add more, Saudi Arabia defeated Argentina on Tuesday and produced one of the greatest upsets in history.

It was a four-match day on Tuesday and barring the upset, two ended in a draw, making things interesting. Teams from Group E and F will make their first appearance in the biggest sporting event on Wednesday, hoping to get off to a flyer.

As things stand, let us take a look at Day 3 round-up in the FIFA World Cup 2022:

1) Argentina vs Saudi Arabia (1-2)

With Lionel Messi announcing that it would be his last World Cup, Saudi Arabia made it difficult for the legendary player and his team to get the campaign going as they stunned the spectators and the football world with their emphatic win.

To add more, it was Messi who provided an early lead for the La Albiceleste, capitalizing on a penalty. However, Saudi Arabia bounced back in the second half as Saleh Alshehri matched the lead in the 48th minute, backed by a stupendous goal by Salem Aldawsari in the 53rd minute, allowing them to take a lead. Eventually, Argentina lost the match, not able to score and match the lead.

2) Denmark vs Tunisia (0-0)

As far as the second match between Denmark and Tunisia is concerned, both the teams displayed great energy and it was the former, who held the possession for the most part of the game.

However, proper defence from Tunisia ensured Denmark remained without a goal till the end, eventually Tunisia also failed to score one to their name. Both teams took one point apiece and Tunisia remained second in the points table post the conclusion of the match.

3) Mexico vs Poland (0-0)

Mexico and Poland’s match turned out to be a draw as well, with both teams failing to score a goal to their name in the epic battle. Holding possession for two-thirds of the game, Mexico failed to capitalize on the opportunities, although they came up with 11 shots.

Poland, on the other hand, looked completely out of the game, although their defence technique prevented Mexico from taking a lead, that could have cost the former, the game.

4) France vs Australia (4-1)

The match between France and Australia turned out to be the second-best match of the day, as France sealed the game with a massive scoreline of 4-1. To add more, while Craig Goodwin produced the early lead for Australia in the 9th minute, France managed to bounce back, restricting the Socceroos to just one goal till the end.

Adrien Rabiot matched the lead in the 27th minute, followed by a brace from Olivier Giroud, out of which one of them came in the first half. Kylian Mbappe scored a goal to his name in the 68th minute, while Giroud his second for the day in the 71st minute to let the Les Tricolores take home the win.
