‘Colombo he best hai, baarish hamare favour main hai’ – Fans react as Colombo remains venue for remaining Asia Cup 2023 matches

The Asian Cricket Council has decided that they would keep the same venues as planned for the upcoming Super 4 matches as well as the final

There are no intentions to move the Asia Cup 2023 in Sri Lanka to Hambantota as Colombo will continue to serve as the location. The participating boards discussed a potential change of location because of concerns that rain would significantly damage the Super Four stage, but recent sources suggest that there won’t be any adjustments right now.

Since there has been a lot of rain in Colombo over the past several days, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) apparently voted in favour of moving the site to Hambantota. However, it appears like the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) will adhere to the original itinerary.

According to ESPNcricinfo, the chief executive of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) stated that it would be inconvenient for spectators who may have “already made arrangements to watch the matches in Colombo”  and also since it hasn’t been “raining as much in Colombo.”

According to reports, the PCB is dissatisfied with the course of events and believes that because they are hosting the continental tournament, therefore,  no scheduling decisions should have been made without their input.

Originally, the entire tournament was slated to take place in Pakistan, but the Indian Cricket Board said that it would not be able to send a team over the border given that the Indian government would not grant them permission.

Opinion of the Indian Cricket Board Secretary Jay Shah

The ACC president and Indian Cricket Board secretary Jay Shah defended the hybrid scheduling system that allowed for games to be played in Pakistan as well as Sri Lanka in a statement.

Jay Shah said, “In my capacity as ACC President, I was committed to finding a viable and mutually agreeable solution. To this end, I had accepted the hybrid model that was proposed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in collaboration with the ACC management. However, it’s important to note that the leadership of the PCB underwent several changes, and this resulted in some back-and-forth negotiations, particularly regarding crucial aspects such as tax exemption and insurance for matches.”
