Asia Cup 2023

‘Bass intezaar khatam ho’ – Fans react as Rohit Sharma set to attend meeting to finalise India’s Asia Cup 2023 squad on Monday

Rohit Sharma, India

The Asia Cup 2023 will begin on August 30 with Pakistan and Nepal clashing in the opener in Multan. On the other hand, Rohit Sharma’s men will kickstart their campaign against Pakistan on September 2 in Kandy, Sri Lanka. The multi-lateral tournament will take place in a hybrid model and will be co-hosted by Sri Lanka and Pakistan. Earlier, there was a massive power struggle between India and Pakistan over the conduct of Asia Cup 2023. Team India were unwilling to travel to Pakistan reasoning security concerns. However, following the acceptance of the hybrid model, the tournament is all set to be played.

As such, Team India has still not announced their squad for the marquee tournament. At the same time, teams like Pakistan and Bangladesh have already released their squads. However, if the latest reports are to be believed, India skipper Rohit Sharma is all set to attend a meeting in Delhi to finalise the squad for India, as per ANI. This means fans should expect the full squad on Monday or latest, by Tuesday.

Jay Shah is invited by PCB to attend Aisa Cup 2023 opening

As per reports, the Pakistan Cricket Board has sent out invitations to cricket board heads of all member boards of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) to attend the opening of the tournament in Multan. Out of the invitees, Indian Cricket Board honorary secretary Jay Shah is also one. A source close to the developments opened up on the invite.

“The PCB has basically followed up on the invitation which was extended verbally by Chairman Zaka Ashraf to Jay Shah when they both met in Durban for the Apex Council meeting,” the source said. “The PCB was obviously embarrassed after the Pakistani media reported that Jay Shah had accepted Zaka Ashraf’s invitation and the Indian board official later flatly denied this,” they added.

The preparations for the upcoming marquee tournament are happening in full throttle. Earlier on Saturday, August 19, the full panel of commentators was also released.

Here’s the full list of commentators for the Asia Cup 2023: Gautam Gambhir, Ravi Shastri, Waqar Younis, Wasim Akram, Andy Flower, Sanjay Manjrekar, Bazid Khan, Harbhajan Singh, Marvan Atapattu, Irfan Pathan, Matthew Hayden, Sanjay Bangar, Aamer Sohail, Piyush Chawla, Dominic Cork, Mohammed Kaif, Aditya Tare, Rajat Bhatia, Deep Dasgupta.
