The Indian Cricket Board unveiled the Indian team for the 2023 Asia Cup on Monday, and talented young player Tilak Varma expressed his happiness at being chosen. The 20-year-old just made his debut for his country during the T20 series versus the West Indies, and his confident batting made an immediate impression. Tilak amassed 173 runs across the five games, averaging 57.66 runs per game and striking out at 140.65 each game.
Tilak might be just what Team India needs as they approach the season’s final few ODIs since they are in dire need of left-handers within the middle order owing to the lack of the sidelined Rishabh Pant.
Rohit bhai always backed me even when I was playing in the IPL: Tilak Varma
Tilak Varma spoke about making his debut in the Asia Cup later this month. He said, “Never dreamed that I will be debuting directly in the Asia Cup that too in the one-day side. I always dreamt that I could be debuting for India in ODIs but it is a big thing for me. But in a single year debuting for India in T20s and suddenly in the next month, I am getting a call for Asia Cup also which is one of my dreams and I am just preparing for it.”
The left-handed batter spoke about how the Indian team skipper Rohit Sharma always supported him and told him to express himself as he was. He said, “Rohit bhai always backed me even when I was playing in the IPL he used to come to me as I was a bit nervous at the start so he himself came up to me and talked about the game. He asked me to enjoy the game and feel free to come to me Or text me whenever you want to talk and I’ll be there for you anytime.”
