The Indian selection committee has to decide the Indian Cricket Team squad for the Asia Cup 2023 as well as the ODI World Cup 2023. The reports in PTI have suggested that the core group for both the tournament has been finalized, but there’s a competition for the fourth pacer’s slot in the team.
The selection team is facing a difficult decision as they must choose between Shardul Thakur and Jaydev Unadkat for the extra fast bowler position in the 15-member India squad for the World Cup. But the Men in Blue will be having a fair amount of time to name the final 15 for the ODI World Cup 2023.
KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer to get selected for World Cup
According to Cricket Governing Body rules, each team must submit its initial roster of 15 players by September 5, although the final submission can be completed by September 27, and a country may make as many changes as possible between the initial and final submissions.
The Indian Cricket Board wants to give KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer a proper chance to recover ahead of the mega-events. “The selectors and the team management want to give both Rahul and Shreyas full chance of recovery. Rahul is certainly way ahead in terms of recovery and getting closer to full match fitness But he needs to do match simulation where he is able to keep wickets for 50 overs,” the PTI reported.
Jaydev Unadkat and Shardul Thakur’s performances at the Asia Cup and the three-match series against Australia will be closely watched. While Thakur has been outstanding in recent months, Unadkat has only played a few games, but his left-arm angle is something that will be considered.
