Novak Djokovic’s remarkable comeback story continued on Sunday as he defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-3, 7-6 (4), 7-6 (5) in the final at the Australian Open to claim his 10th championship title in Australia and 22nd Grand Slam title overall. With this victory, Djokovic regained the No. 1 spot in the ATP rankings and extended his impressive winning streak at the hard-court tournament to 28 matches.
A year ago, Djokovic was unable to participate in the Australian Open after being deported from the country due to COVID-19 vaccination requirements. However, the 35-year-old has made a triumphant return and added to his already impressive record. His 10 trophies from the Australian Open are a record in themselves, and his 22 major championships, including seven from Wimbledon, three from the U.S. Open, and two from the French Open, tie him with Rafael Nadal for the most major championships won by a man in tennis history.
Dream big- Novak Djokovic
Djokovic’s outstanding performance in the Australian Open serves as a testament to his skill and resilience, and fans are eager to see what he will accomplish next in his already illustrious career. His post-match speech was emotional, and understandably so.
“Good evening, I have to say I am touched by Stefanos’ words. Thanks for being so kind and respectful. I congratulate you on an amazing tournament. This is definitely not your last grand slam. You have lots of time, more than me. I still think you are very interesting. We are small countries that don’t have a tennis tradition. The message for any young tennis player around the world who is dreaming of being where Stefanos and I are: dream big. It doesn’t matter where you are coming from,” said the 22 times Grand Slam winner.
“This has been one of the most difficult tournaments, considering the circumstances. not playing last year coming back this year. I want to thank all the people who made me feel comfortable. There is a reason I have been playing may best tennis here. Only the team and the family know what we have been through. I would say this is the biggest victory in my life, considering the circumstances, ” concluded Djokovic after winning the first Grand Slam of the year.

One year ago, Novak Djokovic was robbed of the Slam record, the #1 ranking, and a 10th Australian Open title.
One year later, Novak Djokovic achieved the Slam record, became #1, and won a 10th Australian Open title.
This is poetic justice. pic.twitter.com/5G5BA3LM5w
