Riding on a sensational spell from Jasprit Bumrah, India bundled England out for just 110 runs at the end of the first innings in the first ODI on Tuesday at the Kennington Oval ground in London. Bumrah started off wonderfully and, once again, denied England of getting a good start.
Jason Roy’s struggle continued on Tuesday as he got out on a duck to help Bumrah get his first wicket of the day. One ball later, he had Joe Root edged the ball through to the keeper.
England’s new Test skipper, Ben Stokes got out on a golden duck from one beauty of a delivery from Mohammed Shami as England lost three wickets for just 7 runs in 2.4 overs. Jonny Bairstow’s stay (7 off 20) also ended in the 6th over as Bumrah had him caught behind to pick his third wicket of the day.
Liam Livingstone became England’s fourth batter to get out on a duck as Bumrah cleaned him up in the 8th over of the innings. England lost half of their side for just 26 runs on the board. Buttler and Moeen Ali added 17 more runs to the total before P Krishna accounted for the wicket of the latter in the 14th over.
In the very next over, England’s last hope, Jos Buttler pulled Shami on the deep backward square leg only to get caught by Suryakumar Yadav. Bumrah later picked his fifth and sixth wicket only to bundle England out for a paltry score of 110 runs on the board.
Jasprit Bumrah returned with an exceptional bowling spell of 6 for 19 in 7.2 overs, while Mohammed Shami picked 3 for 31 in 7 overs. India need 111 runs to win the first Test and take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
