‘Ye to dil bhi nahi jeet rahi’- Fans scratch their head as Bangalore face 4th straight loss in Women’s T20 League

Smriti Mandhana

Bangalore continued their poor performance in the inaugural edition of the Women’s T20 League on Friday. In the eighth game of the tournament, UP trashed Bangalore by 10 wickets after chasing down 139 runs in just 13 overs. This is Bangalore’s 4th consecutive defeat in the tournament and they are yet to win a game in the season.

Earlier, after winning the toss, Bangalore skipper Smriti Mandhana opted to bat first. Her decision didn’t go well with the team as they were bundled up by UP for just 138 runs. Australian all-rounder, Ellyse Perry tried to rescue her team as she scored 52 runs off 39 balls. She added 44 runs with Sophie Devine for the second wicket but, later, didn’t get any support from other batters.

For UP, English bowler Sophie Ecclestone and Indian pacer Deepti Sharma shone brightly with the bowl. Ecclestone took four wickets by giving 13 runs in 3.3 overs while Deepti clinched 3 wickets giving out 26 runs in four overs. Two Bangalore batters were run out while trying to steal a quick single.

Alyssa Healy continues dominant performance

In response to Bangalore’s below-par score, UP women never looked uncomfortable. Opener Devika Vaidya, along with skipper Alyssa Healy, hammered Bangalore bowlers all around the park. Healy scored unbeaten 96 runs off 47 balls with the help of 18 fours and a six.

Meanwhile, when Healy was hammering Bangalore bowlers, Vaidya played the anchor role by just supporting her partner. She scored 36 runs off 31 balls with the help of five 4s. This is UP’s second victory in three games and they are set to take on Mumbai on 12 March.

Notably, Mumbai are unbeaten in the tournament as they have won all three games in the season. On the other hand, Bangalore will face Delhi on March 13 in the quest to register its first victory. However, fans react to their poor performance and call it just a mediocre team. A Twitter user said, “Kya kare ye to ab dil bhi nhi jeet rahi.”
