‘Ee sala cup rehne de’ – Fans react as Gujarat hand Bangalore their third consecutive defeat by 11 run in the Women’s T20 League

Bangalore stay at the bottom of the points table having lost all three games in the Women’s T20 League

Gujarat beat Bangalore in Women's T20 League

The passage of high scores continued in the Women’s T20 League on Wednesday as Gujarat faced off against Bangalore, scoring 201/7 in their 20 overs. Notably, the two teams were winless in their first two games before coming into this match. Gujarat won the toss and elected to bat first. Gujarat lost their opener S Meghana cheaply, but co-opener Sophia Dunkley and top-order batter Harleen Deol ensured that Gujarat’s innings did not go astray.

Dunkley, with 65 off 28 deliveries and Deol’s 67 off 45 deliveries, remained the highlight of Gujarat’s innings as the women in orange reached 201/7 at the end of their 20 overs. For Bangalore, Heather Knight and Shreyanka Patil returned with two wickets each, while Renuka Singh and Megan Schutt had one scalp apiece in the game.

Ashleigh Gardener remained the star for Gujarat with a three-wicket haul

In reply, Bangalore started off well. They lost skipper Smriti Mandhana for 18 after the opening batters had put on a fifty-run partnership. Her opening partner Sophie Devine continued to look strong batting alongside star batter Ellyse Perry. Perry fell for a quick cameo of 32 off 25 while Devine went on to score 66 off 45.

Heather Knight remained unbeaten on 30 of just 11 as her efforts went in vain, with Bangalore falling short of the target by 12 runs. They managed 190/6 in their 20 overs and are yet to open their account in the Women’s T20 League. For Gujarat, Ashleigh Gardener remained the pick of the bowlers returning with three scalps in her four overs, conceding 31 runs. Gujarat have finally opened their account in the league after registering their first win in three games.

Next, the Women’s T20 League will see the top two teams clash against each other as Delhi face Mumbai in the DY Patil Stadium on Thursday. The two sides have not lost a game yet in the league’s inaugural season. Mumbai enjoy a better net run rate and are therefore placed atop the standings. However, that could change if Delhi emerges victorious in the upcoming clash of Titans.

Here’s how fans reacted to Bangalore’s third consecutive loss:
