‘Ye kaam aur World Cup ke din ke lete’ – Fans react as Indian Cricket Board reportedly look to organise nationwide talent hunt to find fast bowlers for future

Senior players like Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah are also running out of the game due to recurring injuries.

Indian Cricket Board

The Indian Cricket Board has decided to unearth some hidden bowling talents from the country. The world’s richest cricket board has decided to organise a nationwide talent hunt programme to find young pace bowlers who can represent India in the future. In the recently concluded Apex Council Meeting, this decision was taken after consulting with NCA chief VVS Laxman and other stakeholders.

It’s worth noting that the Indian Cricket Board is looking for talented bowlers ageed 18–21 to groom. This measure has been taken to boost India’s bench strength in bowling since a shortage of top-tier bowlers has been a key problem for the country. One of the biggest aspects of the selection would be fitness level, as the board is looking to improve fitness standards in the Indian team.

“It was felt that we need to have bench strength in the bowling department to win Tests, hence the need for this move, the Times Of India quoted a source as saying. “A couple of players in the Indian women’s team were dropped for the Bangladesh tour as they failed to fulfil the fitness criteria. The Board is going to be strict on that front,” he further added.

India is lagging behind with fast bowlers

The lack of quality fast bowlers has been one of the biggest concerns for the Indian team in the last few years. India currently has a pool of 7-8 fast bowlers who are being rotated on a regular basis. Apart from these, India lacks quality pacers in domestic cricket. Young talents like T. Natrajan, Shivam Mavi, and Kamlesh Nagarkoti have been injury-prone.

Meanwhile, senior players like Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah are also running out of the game due to recurring injuries. Players like Ishant Sharma are no longer in contention. Keeping these things in mind, the Indian Cricket Board is looking to generate a pool of talent that can fill the shoes of these players in the upcoming years. Fans and cricket pundits are also supporting the board’s decision and are excited about the upcoming talents.
