Skipper Aiden Markram picks between Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mayank Agarwal as Hyderabad’s vice-captain in Indian T20 League 2023

Aiden Makram

The Hyderabad-based team went under a huge reshuffling in the Indian T20 League auction held in December. They decided to make a few statement buys by selling their expensive players. They added emerging players as well as established players in the T20 circuit while keeping the core of the team. Of the 25 players, the Hyderabad team announced the Proteas, Aiden Markram, as the captain of their team.

The talismanic batter led Eastern Cape to South Africa T20 League glory a few weeks ago. He was the leader of the team on and off the field. In the Indian T20 League, when things went south for the Hyderabad team, he was a silver lining in the dark clouds. He scored 381 runs in 14 games and averaged 47.63.

Talking to the media after becoming the captain of the Hyderabad franchise, Aiden Markram said he is in a fix. The right-handed batsman mentioned that Mayank Agarwal and Bhuvneshwar Kumar are two strong contenders for the vice-captain role. However, their past credentials have made him think harder while handing out the vice-captain role.

“That’s a tough one. I played under Mayank at Kings. He and I got on really well. And if you look at the amount of experience someone like Bhuvi has, it is almost irreplaceable. So, to pick one would be difficult right now but I think both of them would nail it certainly.” Markram said.

When asked by the journalists regarding one player who must be a part of the South Africa T20 League in the future, Aiden Markram mentioned Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Markram is in awe of the former Indian team skipper for his glory on and off the pitch.

“That’s a very difficult one. To be honest with you, someone like MS (Dhoni) would be great to have in the camp. Just for guys to be able to learn – he has got all the knowledge, and seen everything this game has produced.” Markram added.
