Indian cricketer Rishabh Pant was involved in a terrifying vehicle accident on the Delhi-Roorkee highway a year ago. Pant barely avoided the subsequent inferno with the assistance of a bystander, but he suffered serious wounds when his car struck a divider. The revelation occurred when Pratima, Ishant Sharma’s wife, called Axar Patel early one morning last year. Pratima asked Axar when he had last spoken to Pant.
Axar Patel spoke in a video published by Delhi Capitals recounting that incident. He said, “At 7 or 8 in the morning, Pratima, Ishant Sharma’s wife, called me. She wanted to know when I last spoke to Rishabh Pant. I explained that I had planned to talk to him the previous day but didn’t. Pratima urgently asked for Pant’s mother’s contact number, revealing he had been in an accident. My initial reaction was fearing the worst, thinking he would die.”
Pant is recovering admirably, considering how bad the collision was. In 2024, he hopes to play again in the Indian Premier League (IPL). His attendance at the DC franchise’s IPL auction table in Dubai on 19 December is indicative of his resolve to return to the pitch.

The Delhi Capitals skipper said, “I’m fortunate to be alive after the accident. The early recovery was tough, but now it’s progressing well, especially physically. Despite initial challenges, I’m optimistic about the recovery journey. Facing people was hard, but supporting my team during tough times was essential for me. It’s a crucial part of my recovery process, and I’m determined to overcome the challenges.”
