Indian captain Rohit Sharma has said that the ‘Men-in-Blue’ will do everything in their power to change their luck in big tournaments. Speaking ahead of India’s opener against Pakistan in the 20-20 World Cup Rohit said that the team was disappointed to have not won any major trophy in the past nine years, but that does not add to the pressure.
“It’s not pressure as such, but it is a challenge for us to come out on top in big tournaments. The opportunity always comes and we have the opportunity now to focus on getting certain things right. It is a challenge since we have not won a major trophy in 9 years and we are certainly a little disappointed in that and this tournament gives us a chance to change that. We will take it one game at a time,” Sharma explained.
Ahead of the mega clash against Pakistan on Sunday, the Indian captain also gave an insight into his team selection process before a match. He further said that he also won’t mind changing his eleven in every match.
“There are times like this time when we don’t have much information about how teams have fared at this time of the year. At times, you depend on your instincts and choose the player on current form and how he is doing. “But we also study a lot of data. I am open about my playing XI. I don’t mind having one or two changes per game in the playing XI, ” Rohit said.
The Indian captain was also asked a question about whether the team would like to go to Pakistan to play in the Asia Cup next year. The 35-year-old replied that the Indian Cricket Board’s decision will be final on the matter.
“My take is let’s focus on this World Cup, because it is important for us. We are not worried about what’s going to happen later. There is no point thinking about it, the Indian Cricket Board will make decisions on that. We are just thinking about being focused on tomorrow’s game,” the Indian captain said.
After the game against Pakistan on Sunday, India will then play the Netherlands on October 27 before facing South Africa on October 30. Their next two matches will be against Bangladesh on November 2 and against Zimbabwe on November 6.
