T20 World Cup 2024

‘One yorker and game over’ – Twitter trolls Rohit Sharma for his special practice to counter Shaheen Afridi

Rohit Sharma

The much-awaited India-Pakistan clash in the 20-20 World Cup is just two days away as both teams are preparing themselves for the epic encounter. Both the teams have reached Melbourne ahead of their epic clash and were seen practising in the nets ahead of their tournament opener. Indian captain Rohit Sharma was also seen practising hard ahead of his first game as captain in the 20-20 World Cup.

The Indian captain was seen practising batting against ‘in-swinging yorkers’ to counter his old weakness. The India captain batted against throwdown specialists for a while. India have a left-arm throwdown specialist and a right-arm throwdown specialist in their camp and they are giving their best to prepare the players.

Rohit will be up against Pakistan’s Shaheen Afridi who got him out with his lethal inswinging yorker in the last edition of the World Cup. Afridi will be raring to go once again against the arch-rivals and look to dismantle their top order like last time around.

The Indian team has been vulnerable against left-arm seamers who have wreaked havoc against them time and again. The likes of Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Irfan have been highly successful against India in the last decade. And all eyes will be once again set on India’s chief tormenter last year Shaheen Afridi, who will look to emulate his last year heroics.

The seamer made a comeback to international cricket in Pakistan’s warm-up fixtures ahead of the World Cup. The 22-year-old missed out of the Asia Cup last year due to an injury.

Amid the high anticipation of the big match between India and Pakistan, there are dark clouds hovering over its fate as heavy rains are expected in Melbourne on Sunday.

The Australian Bureau of Meteorology has predicted the weather to be, “Cloudy. Very high (95 per cent) chance of showers, most likely in the afternoon and evening. Winds southerly 15 to 25 km/h turning southeasterly during the evening.” There is a possibility that 4 to 10 mm of rainfall takes place on Sunday.

The weather in Melbourne on Friday was clear and there were no signs of rain. The Indian team practiced in the nets under bright sunshine. However, from Friday onwards, there is likelihood of heavy showers till October 25 onwards.
