Shubman Gill scored 208 runs against New Zealand in the first ODI at Hyderabad on Wednesday, January 18, becoming the newest member of the double-ton club in ODI cricket. The Indian opener joined players such as Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan, who most recently smashed a double century against Bangladesh last year.
The Indian Cricket Board shared a hilarious exchange between the trio of Gill, Rohit, and Kishan on Thursday as they welcomed the former to the 200-run club following India’s 12-run victory over New Zealand. In the video, the “Hitman” was also seen making fun of Gill and Ishan while pulling Kishan’s leg.
When Kishan inquired about Gill’s preparation for the game, Gill responded that he was unable to do so because Ishan, with whom he shares a room, frequently watches movies without his earphones. “He (Kishan) spoils my entire pre-match routine as he doesn’t let me sleep. He doesn’t use earphones and watches movies at full volume,” said Gill.
“I abuse him and ask him to turn down the volume but he says it is his room and the rules will be according to him. I fight with him daily). This is my pre-match,” he added. “I think it is because you slept in my room, you scored my runs,” replied Kishan.
Later on in the video, after Rohit said, “From myself and Ishan, welcome to the 200 club,” Gill responded, “Pleasure,” and Kishan also congratulated his countryman.
In the meantime, the Indian captain made a decision to tease Kishan by saying, “Ishan, You Scored 200 and Didn’t Play 3 Matches,” to which the latter replied, “Bhaiya captain toh aap hain (But you’re the captain!)” as the group laughed.

Next, the second ODI between India and New Zealand will take place in Raipur on Saturday, January 21. The BlackCaps will be aiming for a comeback while the Men in Blue will be hoping to win the series.
