Mohammed Siraj performed admirably in front of his home crowd in Hyderabad as Team India defeated New Zealand by 12 runs to take a 1-0 series lead. The Indian pacer put on a ferocious spell in front of his home crowd, taking 4 wickets, and his family and friends came out to cheer him on.

Mohammed Siraj had the best economy rate of all Indian bowlers in the first ODI with 4.60, allowing just 46 runs in his 10 overs. The Indian Cricket Board published a video of Siraj’s friends and family praising him for a job well done after the game.

The mother of Siraj, Shabana Begum, was also present and expressed hope that her son would be chosen for the Indian team to compete in the upcoming ODI World Cup in 2023. A number of Mohammed Siraj’s cricket-playing friends could also be seen in the video wishing the Indian bowler luck in the future.

“I would like to thank Allah and hope that Mohammed Siraj can continue to shine for India. Hopefully, he can continue his performances and make it into the World Cup squad,” she said.

With their incredible shots, Michael Bracewell and Mitchell Santner nearly put an end to India’s celebration in Hyderabad, but the home team ultimately prevailed. With a 12-run victory to start the series, Rohit Sharma and company took a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. New Zealand lost half of their side within the first 25 overs of their 350-run chase due to a sluggish start.

New Zealand, on the other hand, remained competitive thanks to the strong pairing of Bracewell and Santner. The pair scored 162 runs for the seventh wicket, with Santner scoring 57 off 45 balls. Despite losing his partner, Bracewell kept things moving for New Zealand because he was the last man to leave. In the penultimate over, Shardul Thakur caught him LBW for 140 off 78 balls.

Earlier in the day, Shubman Gill scored 208 runs off 149 balls to help India reach 349/8 in 50 overs. With the visitors needing 350 runs to win, Michael Bracewell’s 140-run innings nearly led them to victory, but the Indian bowlers stopped them.
