Watch: Umesh Yadav strikes for India early, puts Bangladesh on back foot in first Test

India and Bangladesh are facing off in the first Test that kicked off on December 14, Wednesday and on Day 2, Thursday, turned out to be India’s as they managed to cross the 400-mark before getting bowled out for 404. Eventually, the Indian camp bounced back as they picked up a wicket on the first ball and reduced Bangladesh to 5/2 in no time.

Although one has to agree that the first wicket was highly praised, the second scalp from Umesh Yadav turned out to be the most talked about as the pacer rattled the stumps and the batter, Yasir Ali, who ended up playing all over the ball, eventually mistiming it to get an inside edge on to the stumps.

As things stand, the Indian team led by KL Rahul fought hard in their first innings and eventually put on a mammoth total on the back of Cheteshwar Pujara’s 90 and Shreyas Iyer’s 86. It was a well-fought total for team India as they were restricted to 48/3 earlier in the innings with all of the top three failing to deliver.

While KL Rahul scored 22 runs, Shubman Gill, on the other hand, made his way back to the dressing room post scoring only 20 runs. A vital contribution of 46 from Rishabh Pant in the middle order ensured that the Indian team crossed the 400-run mark. As far as their bowling is concerned, the pacers were brimming with fire earlier in Bangladesh’s first innings as they picked up 3 quick wickets in no time.

To add more, while opener Najmul Hossain Shanto perished on the very first ball of the innings, Ali, on the other hand, contributed 4 runs to Bangladesh’s scoreboard before Yadav picked up his wicket. Litton Das, who led the team in the ODI series, could only contribute 24 runs as he fell for Mohammed Siraj’s stupendous spell. Early in the third session, the Bangla Tigers were reeling at 55/3 with Zakir Hassan unbeaten at 20 and Mushfiqur Rahim at 4.
