After the Indian pacer dismissed the Bangladeshi batter, Litton Das, on Day 2 of the ongoing first Test at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Mohammed Siraj and Virat Kohli teased the crowd in Chattogram on Thursday. The incident happened on the first ball of Bangladesh’s first innings’ thirteenth over.
Siraj and Das got into a verbal altercation as he was bowling his second over of the new spell. Das cupped his ears and teased the Indian seamer after Siraj said something to him. Both players were instructed to go back to their original positions by the umpire who had intervened. Das’ focus appeared to be affected by this altercation because he lost his wicket on the very next delivery.
Siraj maintained his stump-to-stump line as the ball stayed a little low and took Das’ bat’s under edge before slamming into the stumps. Siraj and Kohli were both enthused as they put their hands behind their ears and gestured at the audience as if they hadn’t heard anything.
Earlier, Team India, captained by KL Rahul, scored 404 runs in their first innings. They started the game off with a score of 276/6 from the previous night but quickly lost half-centurion Shreyas Iyer (86 off 192). Before being dismissed in the post-lunch session, Ravichandran Ashwin (58) and Kuldeep Yadav (40) added a 92-run partnership for the eighth wicket.
When Bangladesh batted in response, they struggled and fell to 133/8 in 44 overs before the end of day two. They currently trail by 271 runs. On the other hand, India needs only two wickets to get back in the middle and set a target. They would want to wrap up the match at the earliest.
In the meantime, fans were enthralled by Virat Kohli and Mohammed Siraj’s reply to Litton Das in their altercation. The fans praised Kohli for backing his teammate. “We should get kohli in the team for the next test just for doing this,” wrote a fan.
