KL Rahul is currently captaining the Indian team in the first Test match against Bangladesh at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram. The fans anticipated the stand-in captain to play with the same intent as he had stated before the game that the team would take a more attacking approach.
However, as it turns out the opening batter fell in the trap set up by Bangladesh early in the first innings on day one. He scored 22 runs in 54 balls, with three boundaries before he fell to Khaled Ahmed in the 19th over.
In the previous over, the bowler set him up perfectly as he bowled a few fuller deliveries on his pads that forced him to play. Ahmed pulled back the length and bowled the delivery outside the off-stump on the first ball of the 19th over. Rahul half-heartedly tried to drive in the square region on the off-side. As a result, the ball took an edge off the bat and went on to hit the stumps to give Bangladesh their second wicket.
Earlier, Shubman Gill also departed early as he gave away his wicket to Taijul Islam while playing an unnecessary shot. The troubles continued for the Men in Blue as Virat Kohli was also sent back soon after Rahul’s wicket. Islam took his second wicket of the game with a brilliant delivery.
At Lunch, India managed to score 85 runs for the loss of three wickets. Cheteshwar Pujara and Rishabh Pant were in the middle, batting at 12 and 29, respectively. The visitors will look to get back in shape and score as many runs as possible in their first innings.
In the meantime, Rahul was at the centre of things with his continued poor performance. Fans trolled him on Twitter after he failed to deliver. “Kl Rahul before match: we like the way England is playing test cricket. You will surely see aggressive approach from our side.
