Virat Kohli left his early stamp on the 2023 Cricket World Cup with an amazing catch. The former India skipper flew to his left like Superman to get rid of Mitchell Marsh. Jasprit Bumrah was the bowler as India got its first wicket of the tournament.
India was dealt a huge blow when it was confirmed Shubman Gill was ruled out of the game. The youngster was out due to testing positive for Dengue just two days before the match.
Pat Cummins the Australian skipper won the toss and decided to bat first. India fielded three spin bowlers considering the slow nature of the wicket. Ravichandran Ashwin was playing just his second World Cup game in front of his home fans in Chennai.

Bumrah had got India its first wicket as Marsh was dismissed for a duck after playing 6 balls. The Indian team dominated play with the new ball with Bumrah bowling uncomfortable lengths.
David Warner and Steve Smith then combined to add 69 runs. The second wicket stand came in 14.1 overs. Just when it seemed the Australians were running away with the game, Kuldeep Yadav struck. The left-arm wrist spinner had Warner out caught and bowled for 41 runs.
Ravindra Jadeja was the final spin option to be bought into the attack and it was Jadeja who got the big scalp. Smith saw the ball turn to hit the top of his off-stump after turning from the middle stump. The Australian vice-captain was out for 46 from 71 balls with 5 hits to the fence.
Marnus Labuschagne was the next to go when he went for a wild slog sweep off Jadeja. The Australian could only manage to edge the ball to KL Rahul as he took an impressive catch. Australia was 119/4 in the 30th over with Labuschagne out for 27 off 41 balls with 1 four.
