WATCH: Star India ‘bowler’ Virat Kohli takes his first World Cup wicket

Kohli, in his inning, scored 51 runs off 56 balls with the help of five fours and a six.

In the 45th match of the ODI World Cup 2023, India faces the Netherlands at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. While batting first, India posted a massive total of 410/4 in 50 overs. Star batters Shreyas Iyer (128*), KL Rahul (102), Rohit Sharma (61) and Virat Kohli (51) shone with the bat for India.

However, playing at his second home in Chinnaswamy, Kohli and the Indian team management gave a special gift to fans. While fans were chanting ‘Kohli ko ball do’, Skipper Rohit Sharma handed the ball to Kohli. Kohli followed the skipper’s decision and bowled a brilliant over. In the very next over, Kohli dismissed Dutch skipper Scott Edwards. This was Kohli’s first international wicket since 2016 and his first World Cup wicket.

It’s worth noting that Kohli, in his three-over spell, gave up 13 runs while taking a wicket. Apart from Kohli, skipper Rohit Sharma handed the ball to Suryakumar Yadav and Shubman Gill too. Both have been amazing with the ball. Gill, in his two-over spell, gave up 11 runs, while Surya, in his first over, gave up 4 runs. Meanwhile, apart from Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammad Siraj, and Ravindra Jadeja took a wicket each.

Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul scored magnificent centuries

Earlier, after winning the toss, India skipper Rohit Sharma opted to bat first. His decision went well with the team, as openers Shubman Gill and Rohit added 100 runs for the first wicket. Gill, in his inning, scored 51 runs off 32 balls with the help of three fours and four sixes. Meanwhile, Rohit, in his innings, scored 61 runs off 54 balls with the help of eight fours and two sixes.

After their departure, Virat Kohli also scored a magnificent half-century. Kohli, in his inning, scored 51 runs off 56 balls with the help of five fours and a six. In the end, amazing centuries from KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer helped India cross the 400-run mark. Rahul, in his innings, scored 102 runs off 64 balls with the help of eleven fours and four sixes. Meanwhile, Iyer, in his innings, scored 128 runs off 94 balls with the help of ten fours and five sixes.
