Watch: Salem Spartan’s skipper Abhishek Tanwar bowls most expensive final delivery in TNPL history

However, lower-order batter Adnan Khan Slammed magnificent innings and tried to rescue his team.

In the second game of the Tamil Nadu Premier League 2023, Chepauk Super Gillies beat Salem Spartans by 52 runs. The game witnessed a bizarre final delivery by Salem skipper Abhishek Tanwar, who conceded 18 runs off the final delivery in the first innings. Tanwar, who had only given up 8 runs in the first five balls, handed up a staggering 18 runs on the final ball, shocking the crowd.

Abhishek Tanwar’s nightmare began with the last ball of the 20th over when he removed Sanjay Yadav. The umpire, however, signalled a no-ball, resulting in a free hit. Tanwar then produced another no-ball, which allowed Sanjay Yadav to smash the next delivery over the boundary for a six.

As if the damage wasn’t enough, Tanwar repeated his error by bowling another no-ball, giving Yadav two more runs and letting him keep the strike. Tanwar delivered a wide delivery, which was soon followed by another no-ball, resulting in Yadav blasting another six.

As a result of this disastrous spell, Chepauk posted a massive total of 217/5 in 20 overs. Opener Pradosh Paul hammered a brilliant half-century as he scored 88 runs off 55 balls with the help of 12 boundaries and a six. Apart from him skipper N Jagadeeshan, Baba Aparajith, and Sanjay Yadav scored 35, 29 and unbeaten 31 respectively. For Salem Sunny Sandhu was goto Bowler as he clinched two wickets. Abhishek and RS Mokit also clinched a wicket each.

Adnan Khan failed to clinch the game for Salem

In response, Salem got a shaky start as they lost two wickets for just 35 runs. Wicketkeeper-batter Amit Sathvik, S Arvind, and Akash Surma all failed to capitalise on good starts. They scored 6, 17 and 24 runs respectively. Salem never get back in the game and constantly lost the wickets. They soon were crumbling at 108/7 in 16.2 overs. However, lower-order batter Adnan Khan Slammed magnificent innings and tried to rescue his team.

He scored 47 runs off 15 balls with the help of a boundary and six maximums. For Chepauk, Baba Aparajith, Rocky Bhaskar and M Viju Arul clinched two wickets each while Harish Kumar, Rahil Shah, and M Sliambaran clinched a wicket each. Notably, with this victory, Chepauk clinched the second spot in the Points table. Meanwhile, on Wednesday Ravichandran Ashwin will be in action for Dindigul Dragons.
