In the 36th match of the Indian Premier League 2023, Royal Challengers Bangalore hosted Kolkata Knight Riders at the M Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru. With some amazing batting and bowling performances, KKR beat RCB by 21 runs. Skipper Nitish Rana, Jason Roy and Andre Russell shined with bat and ball to contribute to KKR’s victory.

Earlier, after winning the toss, RCB skipper Virat Kohli opted to bowl first and called KKR to bat on the batting-friendly wicket. His decision didn’t go well with the hosts as KKR openers Jason Roy and N Jagadeeshan added 83 runs in 9.1 overs. However, in the 10th over of the innings, young bowler Vijaykumar Vyshak dismissed both of them and sighed in relief. Roy, in his innings, scored, 56 runs off 29 balls, which includes four back-to-back sixes against Shahbaz Ahmed. Meanwhile, Jagadeeshan, in his innings, scored 27 off 29 balls with the help of four boundaries.

After their dismissal, KKR skipper Nitish Rana, along with Venkatesh Iyer, added 80 runs for the third wicket. Rana, in his innings, scored 48 runs off 21 balls with the help of four sixes and three boundaries, while Iyer hammered 31 runs off 26 balls with the help of three boundaries. After their dismissal, Wise and Rinku Singh, with a quick cameo, led KKR to cross the 200 runs mark. Vyshak and Wanindu Hasranga clinched two wickets each and proved to be the best bowlers for RCB.

Virat Kohli’s half-century goes in vein as RCB failed to chase 200

While chasing 201, RCB got a fine start as both opener Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis added 31 runs in just 14 balls for the first wicket. Faf, in his innings, scored 17 runs off seven balls before getting dismissed by Suyash Sharma. Soon, RCB were three down for 58 as Glen Maxwell and Shahbaz Ahmed failed to make an impact.

After their departure, King Kohli, along with Mahipal Lomror, added 55 runs for the fourth wicket. Lomror, in his innings, scored 34 runs off 18 balls with the help of three sixes and a boundary. Meanwhile, Kohli hammered his fifth half-century of the tournament. He scored 54 runs off 37 balls with the help of six boundaries. He was dismissed by Andre Russell in the 13th over of the game.

In the end, Dinesh Karthik and Vyshak tried to rescue RCB but eventually failed to do so. Varun Chakravarthy shined with the bowl as he clinched three wickets. Meanwhile, Russell and Suyash Sharma clinched two wickets each. This is KKR’s third victory in eight games.
