This week on SmackDown, a backstage sequence included a reunion between The Rock and John Cena. The Denver, Colorado audience went wild when the ex-rivals hugged it out. They had previously met, and this might not have been their last.
For those who are curious, The Rock as well as John Cena’s most recent in-ring confrontation occurred at WrestleMania 32 in front of more than 80,000 spectators. The Wyatt Family was defeated in the April 3, 2016, premium live event thanks to the cooperation of the two.
Before the 2016 event, the two had competed together, resulting in their final singles bout taking place at the packed WrestleMania 29. The WWE Championship was on the line in the event, which was a repeat of their “Once in a Lifetime” confrontation at WrestleMania 28.
The Rock sustained a terrible injury during the WrestleMania 29 battle. Rock noted that after that bout he needed emergency triple hernia surgery on his most recent visit on The Pat McAfee Show.
He kept the possibility of a match versus Roman Reigns during WrestleMania 40 open elsewhere in the programme. The epic match was scheduled for WrestleMania 39 a year in advance, according to Rock, but the plan fell through at the last minute.

The Rock was about to face Roman Reigns at WWE WrestleMania 39
The Rock made a shocking revelation regarding a monumental clash against Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39. The match was planned to take place at the SoFi Stadium, he informed Pat McAfee, but they were unable to make it happen.
The Rock said, “All right, so The Rock headlining WrestleMania with Roman Reigns. Sofi Stadium, that was locked [in]. What we were doing, the way we were doing it, we knew we were doing it. We were doing it … So we got really, really close, but we couldn’t actually nail what that thing was. So we decided to put our pencils down and then we agreed, ‘Hey, listen, there’s a merger coming up. Eventually, that will happen. There’s WrestleMania in Philadelphia.”
