R Premadasa stadium

Fans found the Tuesday, September 12 Asia Cup 2023 Super 4 match between India and Sri Lanka to be a fun event at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. India, having chosen to bat first, was bowled out for 213 within 49.1 overs after Dunith Wellalage’s outstanding 5/40 in 10 overs performance trapped them in a web.

The 20-year-old batted brilliantly during the second innings, hitting 42* off 46 balls, but Sri Lanka lost the game by 41 runs, so he couldn’t lead his team to victory. He ran out of partners to bat with and Kuldeep Yadav finished off the tailenders before the youngster even got the strike.

A video of spectators fighting inside the stadium after the game ended quickly became popular on social media. In the trending video, a supporter sprinting at someone while sporting a Sri Lankan jersey strikes him. In the video’s foreground, a group of people can be heard sternly admonishing two additional supporters to leave the stadium following this altercation.

Dunith Wellalage’s dream day out against India

With figures of 5/40 after his spell of 10 overs, the left-arm spinner notched up his maiden five-wicket haul in his professional career while bringing the Indian batting to its knees. In addition, he ended up scoring the most runs for his team, amassing an undefeated 42* from 46 balls alongside assistance of three fours as well as a six.

The southpaw and Dhananjaya de Silva, who notched up 41 from his 63 ball stay had a significant 63-run stand for the seventh wicket. But after losing the latter, he was unable to receive assistance from any other batter, and Sri Lanka was eventually all out for 172.

Wellalage was named Player of the Match because of his all-around effort despite being on the losing side. This was the first ever time in the history of the Asia Cup that a player has received the Player of the Match award for being on the losing side.
