South African young sensation Dewald Brevis lit up the opening match of the CSA T20 Challenge with a fine fifty. The 19-year-old played a brilliant knock of 57 runs in 44 balls while opening for his team ‘Titans’ which helped them reach a total of 168 in their allotted 20 overs. Titans managed to win the game by 34 runs. Brevis was awarded ‘Player of the Match’ for his fifty and also for picking up one wicket.
Titans got off to a miserable start to their innings as Brevis lost his opening partner Neil Brand on the score of 5 after 2.1 overs. Brevis had a slow start to his innings as he was on 13 off 22 balls after 7 overs. He finally got going after he smashed two back-to-back sixes against JJ Smuts in the 8th over of the innings. From there on, he gradually built his innings finding constant boundaries and rotating the strike regularly.
He got involved in a 59-run-stand for the third wicket with Theunis De Bruyn. The 22-year-old brought up his half-century off 39 balls as he clobbered another six against JJ Smuts on the third ball of the 13th over. This was his first-ever half-century in T20 cricket.
He was finally dismissed in the 15th over by Andile Simelane. Brevis’ innings was studded with two fours and four sixes. Some quick-fire knocks by Donavon Ferreira and Dayyaan Galiem guided the Titans to the total of 168 for the loss of six wickets.

After doing the damage with the bat, Brevis rolled his arm over as well bowling three overs with the ball. He ended up picking the wicket of Khaya Zondo who hit the ball straight back to him on his bowling. He finished with the figures of 1/20 after 3 overs. Apart from Brevis, Aaron Phangiso’s heroics with the ball completely derailed the chase of the Dolphins who ended up losing the match by 34 runs.
Opener Grant Roelofsen played a scintillating knock of 68 off 42 balls with the help of seven fours and two sixes. However, he didn’t get much support from his team as the next highest score in the innings was 14.
