Lucknow and Rajasthan faced off in the 20th game of the Indian T20 League at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Winning the toss, the KL Rahul-led side elected to bowl. Rajasthan had a decent start with Jos Buttler (13) and Devdutt Padikkal stitching a partnership of 42 runs in 5.1 overs before the former was clean bowled by Avesh Khan. Three overs later, skipper Sanju Samson (13) was trapped lbw by Jason Holder.
Next over, Krishnappa Gowtham took two wickets, Padikkal (29) and Rassie van der Dussen (4) which put the Jaipur-based team on the back foot, with the score reading 67/4 in 9.5 overs. At this stage, Shimron Hetmyer and Ravichandran Ashwin (28*) joined hands and added 68 off 51 balls before the latter decided to retire.
Hetmyer and Riyan Parag (8) then added 28 off nine balls with the former doing most of the scoring. The team amassed a respectable total of 165/6. For Lucknow, the likes of Holder and Gowtham took two wickets each while Avesh Khan took one. In reply, the Indian T20 League debutants had a horror start as Trent Boult took the wickets of Rahul (0) and Gowtham (0) in the first over of the chase.
Boult’s new-ball bowling partner Prasidh Krishna bowled with immense discipline before getting the wicket of Jason Holder (8). Deepak Hooda (25) and Quinton de Kock stitched a partnership of 42 runs before the former became the victim of debutant pacer Kuldeep Sen. Two overs later, Ayush Badoni (5) was caught at long-off by Riyan Parag off Yuzvendra Chahal.
De Kock (39) and Krunal Pandya stitched a partnership of 27 runs before the former was caught by Parag off Chahal. Pandya (22) was clean bowled in the same over. Two overs later, the leg-spinner completed his four-wicket haul by trapping Dusmantha Chameera lbw. With 34 needed for the last two, Marcus Stoinis scored 19 runs against Krishna and kept the game alive. However, Kuldeep Sen bowled a magnificent over as he conceded only 11 runs to win the game for his team by three runs
