The 16th match of the Tamil Nadu Premier League 2022 will have Salem Spartans take on Madurai Panthers at SNR College Cricket Ground on Monday. Salem Spartans are languishing at the bottom of the points table. They have played two matches but haven’t been able to win a single game yet. Spartans would be looking to open their account on Monday.
But it isn’t going to be easy as their opponent, Madurai Panthers are playing formidable cricket. Panthers are sitting at the second position with 3 wins in 4 matches.
The Spartans are coming into this game on the back of an 8-wicket defeat at the hands of Lyca Kovai Kings. Batting first, the Spartans managed to score 146 runs in the first innings. Gopinath played a handy knock of 41 runs in just 18 deliveries, while M Ashwin amassed 31 off 32.
However, the Kings chased down the score pretty easily in 16.3 overs. For Panthers, Murugan Ashwin (1 for 26) was the only bowler who looked threatening. However, the other bowlers failed to hit the straps.
On the other hand, the Panthers won their last match against Dindigul Dragons by 7 wickets. They restricted the Dragons to just 122 runs in the first innings. Sunny Sandhu picked 3 for 11 runs in 4 oevrs, while Chakravarthy picked 2 for 14 in 4 overs.
Madhurai Panthers chased down the score easily in 15.3 overs. Arun Karthik amassed 41 runs in 31 balls but it was Balchander Anirudh who’s 34-ball 51 made the game one-sided affair for the team.
