‘Test ka World Cup Nahi hai Williamson’ – Fans hit back at Kane Williamson for slow-paced innings against England

The batter scored a run-a-ball 40 against England on Tuesday.

Kane Williamson's slow-paced inning draws criticism

Kane Williamson, the New Zealand skipper, scored a run-a-ball 40 in the clash against England on November 1, Tuesday and to comment more, the innings drew a lot of criticism from fans all over the world.

Notably, Williamson, who is not known to play aggressively, hit the headlines after putting the rest of his batters under pressure in the crucial Tuesday clash. On the contrary, Glenn Philips, who scored a well-crafted 62 off just 36 balls, received a lot of appreciation for almost winning it for the Kiwis

However, after putting 179 runs on the board, the Three Lions went to defend the total and won the match by 20 runs, putting Australia in deep trouble as the Kangaroos will have to depend on the outcome of the Sri Lanka-England battle to make it through to the semis.

Credit to the way England played, they put us under pressure: Williamson

Post the defeat, the Black Caps captain Williamson, lauded the England team and said that the Kiwis were under huge pressure during the match. Further, the skipper also opened up on Jos Buttler’s catch-drop and admitted that it was embarrassing for him.

“Credit to the way England played, they put us under pressure. They played beautifully, hats-off to them, they were pretty clinical. It was a slightly above par total. We tried to take it little deep, but credit to the way they bowled. It was quite tricky. You don’t want to be doing that (drop Buttler’s catch), he’ll make you pay. He played a beautiful knock in a big game for them,” Williamson said after the match in the interview.

“I thought I had squeezed it (Buttler’s catch) in my chest, it was a bit embarrassing in the end as I looked at the replays. He (Phillips) has been batting beautifully, he got a hundred in the last game, and changed the momentum in our favour somewhat today. You will be put under pressure in such tournaments, but we need to take the positives and move on to the next game,” said the Kiwi captain further.

As it stands, let us take a look at a few Twitter reactions to Williamson’s slow-paced innings against England:
