KL Rahul, India’s opening batter, has had a forgettable 20-20 World Cup 2022 so far. The batter has only scored 22 runs in three matches in the mega event, with an average of 7.33. Rahul has yet to score in double figures in any of his innings, with scores of 4, 9, and 9 in matches against Pakistan, the Netherlands, and South Africa, respectively.

Many people have expressed concern about the star batter’s form. Former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri has now chimed in with his thoughts on the subject. Rahul needs to get some runs under his belt, according to Shastri, and he can not keep putting pressure on the middle order.

“You need some more consistency from the top. KL Rahul getting some runs will help because you can’t keep putting the pressure on the middle order,” said Ravi Shastri on the Apex Cricket Board’s ‘The Big Time Preview’.

While Rahul is struggling with his form, India’s Suryakumar Yadav is on fire at the current T20 tournament in Australia. With the help of two half-centuries, he has scored 134 runs in three games at an average of 67.00 and a strike rate of 178.66.

Talking about Suryakumar, Shastri said: “He is lighting up this world Cup. He is playing shots which no one would have imagined 10 years ago. He is one heck of a player.”

Play however you want, but I’m not dropping you: Stephen Fleming on KL Rahul

In the meantime, Stephen Fleming has expressed his support for the star batter. He has backed Rahul to make a strong comeback in the tournament’s remaining matches.

“I don’t know what unlocks KL Rahul. I remember at IPL seasons where he stuttered this way through and then we copped him once, the team – his franchise side – had been knocked out the tournament and he played one of the most unbelievable innings to get a hundred. You just look at it in just absolute awe, wondering ‘Where has this been?’. Something just has to click on unlock or released to get him going. Maybe it’s that fear of failure just rip into it… the confidence that you’re not going to be dropped for the rest of the tournament,” Stephen Fleming said on ESPNCricinfo.
