India vs Sri Lanka

Asia Cup 2023 has turned out to be a fruitful one for the Indian team with their 8th tournament victory in 16 editions. A lot of low scores have been made in the rich history of the Asia Cup. One of the records was set today itself during the Asia Cup final. Let’s take a look at the lowest totals in Asia Cup ODI.

1) 50 by Sri Lanka vs India in 2023

India defeated Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup 2023 final at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Sunday, causing it to record its second-lowest ODI total ever. After choosing to bat first shortly after winning the toss, Dasun Shanaka’s team was completely demoralised by a spectacular Mohammed Siraj spell. The lowest total ever recorded in an Asia Cup was achieved by Sri Lanka, who succumbed to 50 in under 15.2 overs.

2) 87 by Bangladesh vs Pakistan in 2000

The second-lowest score throughout Asia Cup history is held by Bangladesh. Bangladesh could only score 87 runs in 34.2 overs when chasing a 321-run mark against Pakistan during their 2000 Asia Cup group game at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka. Abdul Razzaq’s run of 3/5 across 4 overs completely demolished the Bangladeshi batting order.

3) 94 by Bangladesh vs Pakistan in 1986

Imran Khan shelled out 2 wickets and Zakir Khan took one in a clinical performance from the bowlers. Mudassar Nazar’s unbeaten innings of 47 helped Pakistan win the game by 7 wickets in what was a one-sided game right from the start.

The fourth-lowest total in Asia Cup history is Sri Lanka’s 96 during the 1984 Asia Cup. This was the inaugural Asia Cup tournament and ironically this was the final back then. When Sri Lanka batted first, they were all out for 96 runs within 41 overs. Chetan Sharma and Madan Lal were clinical that day for Team India as they each took three wickets. India defeated the opposition by 10 wickets and became the first-ever champions of the continental tournament.

5) 99 by Bangladesh vs India in 1988

For the third time ever, Bangladesh was among the top five Asian teams with the lowest scores. Bangladesh batted first on October 27, 1988, at the M.A.Aziz Stadium in Chittagong, however, they only managed to score 99 runs inside 45 overs. Team India easily chased down the opposition total with 9 wickets in hand and 26 overs to spare.
