Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has suggested Indian skipper Rohit Sharma take a break from the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League in order to prepare himself for the upcoming Test Championship final against Australia at the Oval. Gavaskar also added that Rohit can come back for the final few matches of the season and then return fresh for the Test Championship final.
It is noted that the Test Championship final will be held from June 7th to 11th, just a few days after the completion of IPL 2023. However, before the start of the tournament, Rohit himself said that some players will be sent to London early in the final stage of the league as most of the teams will be get knocked out of IPL till then.
“Rohit Sharma should take a break and keep himself fresh for the World Test Championship. Come back again for the last few matches, but right now take a breather himself. He is looking slightly preoccupied, maybe he is thinking about the WTC. I think he needs a little bit of a break,” Gavaskar said on Star Sports.
‘Only a miracle can take Mumbai Indians to the playoffs’ – Sunil Gavaskar
Reflecting on Mumbai Indians’ performance in the ongoing season, Gavaskar said that some players are repeating similar mistakes and should be dropped from the playing XI so that they can get some work done behind the scenes.
“Only a miracle can take Mumbai Indians to the playoffs this season. They will have to play some extraordinary cricket to qualify for the final four. When the bowlers are making the same mistakes, you have to say thank you very much, take a breather and come back after a few games. Do your study, and figure out where you bowled wrong,” the former cricketer further added.
Both India and Australia have announced their squad for the Test Championship final. For India, veteran batter Ajinkya Rahane made a comeback in the Test squad after 17 months. The 34-year-old had a great outing in the 2022-23 Ranji season and is having a great season in IPL 2023 for CSK.
